I was in high school when I began reading my mother’s Edgar Cayce books. I found that in many of Cayce’s psychic readings he included astrological references. In order to understand these references, I bought my first astrology book – A Time for Astrology by Jess Stern. A few years later while in college, I learned that one of my art professors regularly consulted an astrologer to plan the exhibition of his paintings. I requested an astrological reading and my view of life was totally transformed. After I graduated from college with a degree in art I taught sculpture at a nearby Community College. Not long after this teaching position I decided, with the help of astrology, to move to Ann Arbor, Michigan. When I arrived in Ann Arbor in 1976 I immediately became involved in the Yoga Center of Ann Arbor, which was associated with UNESCO, and where I trained as a yoga teacher. During my years in Ann Arbor, I was also introduced to the astrological writings of Alice Bailey and the works of Rudolf Steiner.
After some years of self-study, I was also able to study astrology at an advanced level with Michael Erlewine, who is the founder of the astrological website Matrix Software (which is still in business and is the oldest astrological software company in the country). Being at the forefront of astrology in this country, Michael hosted several astrological conferences where he invited international astrologers to visit Ann Arbor. I later opened the De La Ferriere Bookstore in Ann Arbor where I taught classes in astrology and gave consultations which were the foundation of my practice as a professional astrologer. It was during these years in Ann Arbor that I developed the view of astronomy as the physical aspect of the cosmos – astrology as the personal aspect of the cosmos – and astrosophy as the philosophical aspect of the cosmos.
Several years later, at a national astrological conference, I met Lela Rael, who was then married to Dane Rudhyar, who is widely credited with unifying astrology with humanistic psychology. I accepted their invitation to move to Palo Alto, California to work for Rudhyar. Since I had already read almost all of his many books on astrology, working with him daily effected a deep change in my thinking on how to integrate my artwork, my meditation practice with my profession as an astrologer. After working for Rudhyar I moved to Minneapolis to continue my study of art in graduate level painting classes at the University of Minnesota. Some of the artwork on this website is from that period of study.
In 1992 I moved to Austin, Texas which included starting a family and training as a Waldorf art teacher. I taught art at the Austin Waldorf School for several years and then moved to Ashland, Oregon to teach art at the Ashland Waldorf School. In 2002 I moved to Pennsylvania to teach art at the Kimberton Waldorf School where I taught until 2014. In 2020, I moved to Guanajuato, Mexico where I continue my astrology practice.
